Lipliner and eyeliner tattoosWe are often asked if we can help remove tattooed lipliner and eyeliner. However, at our clinic, we have chosen not to offer removal of these specific types of tattoos, and here’s why:
1. Risk of Unwanted Pigment Changes
The pigments used in lipliner and eyeliner can react unpredictably to laser treatment. Some colors, for example, may darken (a phenomenon known as "paradoxical darkening") during treatment – and in the worst-case scenario, become permanently darker.
This applies especially to the pigments used in lipliner, such as pink and orange tones, which can react unpredictably to laser. While red pigment is sometimes found in other types of tattoos, it is specifically the combination of color and placement in lipliner tattoos that makes the risk higher.
2. Safety Risks for the Eyes
Removing eyeliner requires a special type of eye protection (intraocular shields) that is placed directly on the eye. These treatments may only be performed by a licensed medical doctor with specialist training in the field, as there is a risk of serious eye injuries if the procedure is not handled correctly.
3. Better Treatment Alternatives May Be Available
If you are unhappy with the results of a lipliner or eyeliner tattoo, we recommend that you first consult a dermatologist or clinic that specializes in these specific areas. In some cases, medical or cosmetic correction methods may be a better option than laser treatment.
