Are there side effects of laser treatment? If treatments are performed correctly by trained specialists and you follow the aftercare instructions, the risk of severe side effects from laser treatment is low. Although the risk is minimal, it is important for both you and us to be aware of any potential risks and how to avoid them. This way, we can work together to minimize risks and eliminate any surprises after the treatment.
Below are the side effects of laser treatment, ranked by their frequency.
Common
- Redness and warm sensation
- Tenderness
- Swelling
These side effects usually resolve within the same day or in the following days. Be sure to cool the area as per the aftercare instructions provided by your laser specialist at the clinic. A cooling machine will be used during the treatment to help reduce redness and swelling.
Less Common
- Blisters
- Scabs
- Bruising around the area
- Itching
To avoid scarring, refrain from picking at blisters or scabs. Let the skin heal naturally and use the aftercare cream provided by your laser specialist. If itching becomes severe, you can find antihistamine tablets at your nearest pharmacy to help alleviate it. Any bruising will fade over time.
Very Uncommon
- Hyperpigmentation - less than 1/1000
- Hypopigmentation - less than 1/1000
