Remove your tattoo with laser

Behandling

Can you remove a tattoo yourself?

Attempting to remove a tattoo on your own is both dangerous and ineffective. In the worst cases, it can result in permanently damaged and scarred skin. There are several important reasons why you should not try to remove your tattoo yourself: The Depth of the Tattoo and Ink Placement Since the ink is embedded deep within the dermis—the middle layer of the skin—all superficial methods are ineffective. Scrubbing, peeling, or using various creams unfortunately won’t work. Trying to penetrate that deep into the skin on your own can cause serious injuries. Risk of Infection and Scarring Homemade treatments, such as chemical peels, acids, or abrasive techniques, can result in wounds and infections as they are not performed under sterile conditions. This often leads to permanent damage to the outermost skin layer, resulting in scars or pigment damage. Professional laser treatments eliminate these risks by being conducted in controlled and sterile environments. No Control Over the Ink Tattoo ink is often a mix of various substances, and DIY methods without professional equipment can trigger unpredictable skin reactions. This can make the tattoo look worse and cause permanent damage to the skin that cannot be corrected. Pain and Discomfort Many DIY methods are painful, lack anesthetics, and can result in prolonged discomfort and a challenging healing process. Effective Techniques Require Advanced Equipment Professional and effective tattoo removal requires advanced equipment, such as controlled and safe laser methods. The laser breaks down ink particles into small fragments, which the body can naturally remove. This process is controlled and leaves the skin unharmed—something that cannot be achieved at home. In summary, attempting to remove a tattoo on your own often results in a worse-looking tattoo, along with the risk of permanent skin damage and scarring. The safest and most effective way to get rid of an unwanted tattoo is to consult a certified specialist in laser treatments. We are here to help, answer your questions, and provide an estimate of both the cost and the number of treatments required. Contact us today to schedule a free consultation, either online or at our clinic.

Do you want to remove a tattoo on your wrist?

Wrists are a popular spot for tattoos, but sometimes you may regret it or feel that it stands out too much in certain situations. For those considering tattoo removal on the wrists, it's helpful to understand how the process works. The wrists are an area with thin skin and many blood vessels, which means tattoo removal here can be a bit more sensitive than in other areas. Our laser is gentle for removal, but you may still need numbing beforehand since the skin is thinner and more sensitive than, for example, the upper arms or back. Apply your numbing cream two hours before your visit with us. It's also worth knowing that with tattoo removal on the wrists, the skin here is often exposed to a lot of movement and friction, which can affect the healing process. After the treatment, it's especially important to follow detailed aftercare instructions to avoid infection and help with healing, as well as reduce any swelling. Keep in mind that the color and depth of the tattoo can affect the results. Black and dark colors tend to respond better to laser treatment and may disappear faster. Lighter colors or tattoos with many details may require more sessions to fully disappear. Tattoo removal on the wrists is effective but can take time if the tattoo is deep. Typically, several sessions are required, depending on the tattoo's size and color, and the skin needs time to heal properly between each session. Cooling down the skin with the ice pack provided is important. We also cool the area during the treatment with a cold blower. Be sure that the tattoo has healed and any swelling has subsided before you go back to training. By being thorough with aftercare, you can achieve great results. The feeling when your wrists are free from tattoos is often unbeatable, and you no longer have to think about how to dress or place your jewelry.

When can you see results on the tattoo after a laser treatment?

It can feel like a long process to remove a tattoo with laser, and many wonder what the process actually looks like. When do you start to see results? What happens during a laser treatment? The laser light shatters the ink in the skin using pressure waves, breaking down the ink into tiny particles. Then, the body’s immune system begins gradually transporting these particles away. This process occurs over a long period and proceeds slowly. After the first laser treatment, you might sometimes see an immediate change. This is mostly the case for tattoos with a lot of shading and where the ink isn't set too deep. These can appear lighter right away, but the real effect of the treatment won't be visible until a few months later. A tattoo with a lot of ink or one that is very dark initially typically won’t show an immediate difference. It is, however, normal for the skin in the area to be red and swollen for a few days after treatment. For tattoos that are very dark, new, or contain color, it is common not to see any difference until after the second or third treatment. Results Week by Week Weeks 1-2 During the first two weeks after treatment, you may sometimes see that the tattoo appears a bit lighter. The skin may feel sensitive and may require extra care with a moisturizing cream. Weeks 3-6 During this period, the body starts breaking down the ink particles, and sometimes you may notice that the tattoo has become even lighter since treatment. After 6-8 Weeks This is when the real difference begins to show. Many people notice that the tattoo is significantly lighter and may look more "faded." Weeks 8-12 The tattoo continues to lighten week by week, and after 12 weeks, it is time for your next treatment. Waiting even longer can sometimes reveal even more of an effect on the tattoo. Sometimes, it can take longer to see results, which can be due to factors such as smoking, a newer tattoo, or strong colors in the ink. How Many Treatments? Most tattoos require 6-10 treatments to disappear completely. However, if the tattoo contains a lot of ink and is set deeply, it may take 10-12 treatments or more. Removing a tattoo with laser requires patience, but by following the recommendations from your practitioner, you will soon be able to enjoy clear skin, free from tattoos!

Post-treatment care advice: What you should avoid after the treatment

Laser tattoo removal is the safest and most effective method for removing tattoos. To achieve the best possible results, it is important to follow our aftercare recommendations and understand what should be avoided after treatment. Since a lot of heat is generated in the skin during laser treatment, which is the most common cause of heat blisters, it’s crucial not to expose the skin and body to additional heat. Therefore, avoid hot showers for the first 24 hours after treatment. It is also important to refrain from intense exercise or other activities that may cause sweating for at least 48 hours. Considering the skin is more vulnerable to sun damage during the first four weeks after treatment, it is essential not to expose the treated area to direct sunlight during this period. Always use sunscreen with SPF 50+ and cover the area with clothing for added protection. During the first week after treatment, avoid swimming in pools due to chlorine, which can irritate the skin, and in the sea or lakes, as the water may contain bacteria that can cause infections. The skin is a self-healing organ, so allow it to go through the healing process naturally, even if blisters or scabs develop. Avoid scratching the treated area to prevent further irritation and do not use strong skincare products with active ingredients such as Retinol, acids (AHA/BHA/PHA), or Vitamin C. Finally, moisturize the skin with a fragrance-free cream that has a repairing effect and reduces itching. We offer Dr. Laser, which stimulates skin cell renewal and promotes faster healing. Give your body the time it needs to recover, drink plenty of water, and use the cooling pack we provide to soothe the skin and reduce heat and swelling. Support your body’s healing by following our recommendations for an effective recovery.

Can you treat darker skin types?

Yes, it is possible to treat darker skin types with laser tattoo removal, but it generally involves a slower healing process and requires extra caution to avoid pigment changes or scarring. Darker skin types contain more melanin, which means the skin can absorb more of the laser's energy. Lasers with longer wavelengths, such as the Nd laser at 1064 nm, are often used because these wavelengths penetrate deeper into the skin and are less absorbed by melanin, reducing the risk of skin damage. There is a higher risk of hyperpigmentation (darker spots) or hypopigmentation (lighter spots) following laser treatment for individuals with darker skin types. Therefore, it is crucial to use the appropriate type of laser, and the treatment should be performed by experienced laser specialists who can adjust the settings according to your skin type. People with darker skin types may require more treatments than those with lighter skin because lower energy levels are often used to minimize the risk of skin damage. This means that achieving the desired results may take longer and require more sessions. We recommend booking a consultation before starting treatment so we can assess your skin and tattoo in person to determine if we can proceed with the treatment. In summary, while it is possible to treat darker skin types with laser tattoo removal, it is important to be aware of the associated risks.

Our fixed price means you pay a one-time fee that covers all the treatments you need to remove your tattoo. This includes an unlimited number of treatments until the tattoo is completely gone. We utilize the latest technology in laser removal to ensure that each treatment is as effective and gentle as possible, regardless of the tattoo's size, age, or placement. During your first consultation, we will conduct a thorough assessment of your tattoo and your individual circumstances. This helps us create a personalized treatment plan and provide you with a realistic estimate of how many sessions may be needed. Treatments are performed at standard intervals, usually 12 weeks between each session initially. Once your tattoo has faded to about 70%-80%, we will extend the intervals to between 12 and 26 weeks. Numbing Cream Before Treatment

If you feel anxious about the treatment being painful, there are solutions. Many of our customers use numbing cream to reduce discomfort during the treatment. The most common creams used are Emla and Tapin cream, but there are also other options to buy online. The numbing cream is used by applying a thick layer of cream that covers the entire tattoo. Then you wrap the tattoo with regular plastic wrap and tape along all edges to make it airtight. Just before treatment, you then wash off the cream. The numbing cream usually reduces the discomfort by about 30-60% and it has no negative effect on the result. At all our clinics, we also use cooling machines to further alleviate discomfort. We cool the skin before, during and after the treatment. After the treatment, you get a reusable ice pack that helps reduce the risk of blisters and can be comfortable if the area feels sore. Most people experience no pain after the treatment, but it is mainly during the treatment itself that you may feel discomfort. Please note that due to strict regulations for medicines, we can neither recommend nor provide numbing cream.

Older tattoos are easier to fade

Older tattoos are easier to fade

Tattoos are often seen as permanent works of art. But many are dissatisfied and regret their tattoos, want to make changes to them, or prepare for a cover-up. Even though you may regret it quite quickly, it's very common to wait a couple of years before you really make the decision to start fading your tattoo. Even though it's not fun to walk around with a tattoo you regret for several years, there are still advantages to having an older tattoo. Older tattoos are actually easier to fade than newer tattoos, and there are a few different factors that can explain this: Older tattoos may have faded naturally over time due to sun exposure, cell renewal in the skin, and by becoming worn. Older tattoos were inked with older techniques and inks that were not as durable as modern inks. This means that the ink can break down and fade more easily. Older tattoos have had more time to heal and stabilize in the skin. Tattoo removal can be a complex process if the treatment is not performed correctly. So always remember to consult with a professional laser therapist if you have decided to fade or remove your tattoo. Fortunately, we specialize in fading tattoos and it's the only treatment we've performed for the past 10 years. Book a free consultation to find out how many treatments are required to remove your tattoo!

Aftercare cream

To help the skin recover more quickly, we provide an aftercare cream that is available for purchase. This cream aids in healing the skin and keeping it moisturized after a laser treatment. We recommend using the cream three times a day for five days following your treatment to assist the skin in its recovery. You apply the cream by gently massaging it into the treated area with clean hands. Avoid using too much cream and ensure that you cover the entire area evenly. This routine is designed to optimize the skin's healing process and ensure the best possible results after your treatment. By regularly using the aftercare cream, you will provide your skin with the necessary moisture and nutrients it needs to recover more quickly. The cream contains the following ingredients: EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor): A cell activator that helps cells renew themselves, making the skin more elastic and hydrated. Sodium Hyaluronate and Polyglutamic Acid: These form a protective membrane on the skin, providing moisture and nourishment while protecting against external harmful factors. Snail Mucin Extract: Known for effectively treating wounds, hydrating, and protecting the skin. Pueraria Extract: Helps maintain the skin's elasticity. Aloe Vera: Promotes skin healing. Onion Extract: Soothes the skin and adds moisture. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8: Binds moisture and aids in skin healing.

How does the placement of a tattoo affect its removal?

Behandling

How does the placement of a tattoo affect its removal?

Can the placement of a tattoo really influence how long it takes to remove it? The answer is yes; to some extent, the location will affect the number of treatments you will need. However, just because the tattoo is placed in an area farther from the heart does not mean that it won’t completely disappear. It may just require a few extra treatments until it is truly 100% gone. Hands and Fingers If your tattoo is located on your fingers or feet, it usually takes a bit longer to completely fade it. This is because these areas are farthest from the heart, resulting in lower blood circulation due to the increased distance. If you often find your fingers or feet to be cold, it could be a sign that your circulation is particularly low in those areas. Lower Back In the lower back, the body's lymphatic system has a harder time transporting the ink away compared to other areas. This makes tattoos in the lower back generally take longer to fade. If you have a tattoo in this area, we often recommend a longer waiting period between treatments to maximize the results of each session. Since lower back tattoos usually take longer to fade, it may be wise to ask our laser therapist to show you before-and-after images between treatments. It can be easy to become a bit blind to the results when there is a long gap between treatments, making it harder to notice the differences clearly. Head and Near the Heart If your tattoo is located on your head, neck, or near the heart, the body will find it much easier to manage and transport the ink away. This is because these areas have the best blood circulation in the body. Tattoos located on the neck or head are often also slightly shallower in the skin, as the skin there is thinner compared to, for example, the fingers. What Can Be Done to Minimize the Number of Treatments? For those with tattoos placed far from the heart, there is no need to worry excessively about needing many extra treatments, as long as you have patience. It is indeed possible to compensate for a "poor" placement by waiting a bit longer between treatments. This allows the body more time to process and eliminate the ink. In the end, this can mean you won’t need as many treatments, even if your tattoo is placed far from the heart. Feel free to ask one of our laser therapists what might be a reasonable time to wait between treatments to compensate for the placement if you are concerned about needing many sessions.

How does the immune system react to treatment?

Laser treatment has a very minimal negative impact on the immune system. What happens is that we break the ink down into smaller particles, which are then carried away by the body's lymphatic system. During this process, the immune system temporarily works harder in conjunction with the lymphatic system and the body’s macrophages (cleaning cells) that consume and transport away the ink. However, if you have an ongoing inflammation in the body, you should refrain from treatment during the period of illness, especially if you have a generally compromised immune system (due to, for example, chronic inflammation in the body). What Happens During and After Treatment? During and immediately after a laser treatment, there may be localized inflammation in the treated area. This is the body's immune system signaling that something is amiss in the treated area, prompting the body to defend itself by sending white blood cells to the area to repair any damaged cells or foreign particles released into the body and skin. This constitutes a natural part of the body’s normal defense and healing process and should not affect the entire immune system as a whole. Common Reactions After Treatment Each individual is different, and everyone responds differently to how the body reacts and defends itself. However, the most common reactions after treatment can include redness, swelling, itching, and tenderness in the treated area. These are temporary reactions and typically resolve within up to 10 days. If the tattoo itches significantly, it is acceptable to purchase antihistamines over the counter at the pharmacy. What Should I Avoid After Treatment? You should avoid straining your body with exercise for 2-3 days after treatment, as well as saunas and hot baths. Additionally, it’s essential to avoid public swimming pools for 5 days post-treatment to minimize the risk of infection. Avoid tanning for 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after treatment to prevent treating sunburned or tanned skin, which can put excessive stress on the skin and may lead to pigment changes and an increased risk of blisters. If you are unsure how you will react to the treatment or have other questions or concerns regarding laser removal, feel free to book a consultation!

Preparations before your treatment

We all know that a laser treatment is not the most comfortable experience. However, thanks to our many years in the industry, we have plenty of experience to help you prepare in the best possible way for your upcoming treatment. Below, we list our top tips: Eat Something Beforehand! A small snack is sufficient if it's been a while since your last meal. Going into the treatment on an empty stomach can make you feel a bit dizzy. If you forget this, we often have some snacks and drinks available on-site. Drink Plenty of Water Keeping your skin healthy means ensuring that your body is properly hydrated. It also helps flush out ink particles from your body. Feel free to have a glass of water before the treatment—it's available at the reception. Make Sure to Get 8 Hours of Sleep Sleep is crucial for our well-being. It helps the body repair, renew, and recover. So make sure to rest well both before and after your treatment. Illness vs. Laser Treatment Ensure you are in good health before your treatment so that your immune system can fully focus on eliminating ink particles. If you are sick or feeling unwell, it's best to postpone the treatment until you feel better. This applies to situations like a cold or if you have an injury. Avoid Direct Sunlight This applies both before and after the treatment. If you are too sunburned or tanned, we unfortunately cannot perform the treatment. This also applies if you've used self-tanner. You should also avoid direct sunlight on the tattoo for at least two weeks after the treatment. Therefore, plan your visit carefully! Women, Take Note! Timing is everything... Yes, we’re talking about “that time of the month.” During this time, you may be extra sensitive, and the treatment may feel more intense. A tip is to schedule your treatments to align with your cycle. Wear Loose-Fitting Clothes It's very uncomfortable to put on tight clothing that rubs and irritates the tattoo after the treatment. If you happen to be wearing tight clothing, we can protect the tattoo with a compress temporarily. If you feel discomfort or rubbing, please let us know, and we'll resolve it on-site! Numbing Cream Using numbing cream is completely optional, but we recommend it for larger tattoos and extra sensitive areas like hands, ribs, and ankles. You can purchase numbing cream at your nearest pharmacy and should apply it 2 hours before the treatment for the best effect. It's important to cover the area with plastic wrap and tape the edges to make it airtight. We will wash off the cream on-site. Emla or Tapin are the numbing creams you can buy at the pharmacy. Be sure to shave the area beforehand (if necessary) to allow the cream to penetrate the skin more easily. Changes in Your Health Don’t forget to inform us if you are taking any new medications or have new medical conditions that we need to consider. Be sure to consult your doctor if you are unsure about any medication or medical condition.

Tattoo removal on eyebrows

Removal of Cosmetic Tattoos

In recent years, cosmetic tattoos have become very popular for achieving more defined eyes and lips without having to use makeup. If you are no longer satisfied with your cosmetic tattoo, laser is an effective way to get rid of it. However, it is only eyebrows we can remove with laser, if you want to remove lip liner or eyeliner you need to turn to a clinic that offers that type of treatment. The most common technique for eyebrows is called microblading and is a semi-permanent method where thin lines are tattooed to resemble strands, to fill in where hair is missing. Usually this type of tattoo should fade naturally after 1 - 3 years, but it is rare for them to disappear completely. Most often it is because the pigment has been worked too deep into the skin. In some cases, a more permanent method has been used and then brows have been tattooed with traditional tattoo machines. This type of tattoo usually sits deeper in the skin and can therefore require more treatments. Below we describe how the process works Consultation: If you are thinking about removing a cosmetic tattoo, a consultation with us is the first step. It is best to book it on site so that we can also do a test on a small part of the tattoo to see how the pigment and skin react. In most cases, a color shift of the tattoo occurs when treated with laser, as cold or warm pigments have often been mixed into a cosmetic tattoo. This can show up as a yellow, red or orange hue where it was previously gray/black. Some tattoos also lose their dark pigment and turn red over time, which can be a reason to want to remove it. We can also remove such pigments with our laser. During the consultation, we go through the expected results and you also get an estimate of the number of treatments. Usually 3 - 6 treatments are needed. It is important to remember that the process looks different for everyone and we base it on your specific tattoo, skin type and other factors. You also get advice before the treatment where the most important thing is to avoid sun, tanning bed and self-tanner a few weeks before treatment, and inform about numbing cream. When you do a treatment with us, you do not need to shave off your eyebrows before treatment. Your hair will not be permanently affected, but in some cases it can temporarily lose pigment. You can color your brows a few days after treatment if this should occur. Treatment: We start by washing the area from any makeup and numbing cream. Then we take pictures to have and compare with during the process. The treatment can be felt a little, but it goes very fast. It takes about 2 - 4 minutes to treat both eyebrows. During and after the treatment, we cool the skin with cold air, which is usually very comfortable. After the treatment, you get an ice pack to cool with during the day and care advice. Things to keep in mind afterwards are not to sunbathe, apply makeup to the brows for 1 - 2 days, wait with exercise for two days and bathing and sauna for a week. It is normal to be a little red and feel swollen and sore. Usually it has subsided within a few hours or the day after. Each treatment is done at 8-week intervals. This is to allow the body time to work off the ink and for the skin to have time to recover. We book your next appointment after each treatment. Results: Just like with everything else, the final result differs from person to person. There are a number of different factors that affect what your result will be, such as age of the tattoo, technique used, if you have done more than one cosmetic tattoo, color, depth, skin type. It is important to have realistic expectations and patience when starting a process to remove a tattoo.

The R20 method for tattoo removal

The R20 method involves treating a tattoo 2–4 times on the same day, with a 20-minute break between each session. The same type of laser is used as in regular tattoo removal, but the difference is that you wait 20 minutes between each session instead of 12 weeks. This places significantly higher stress on the skin and greatly increases the risk of pigment changes or scarring. There is also a greater risk of blistering after the treatment. Additionally, the method is not effective for removing colored tattoos, as the skin can be damaged too severely. Most importantly, there are no guarantees that the tattoo will disappear four times faster by lasering it four times in one day. For this reason, we have chosen not to use the R20 protocol. Instead, we achieve much better results by treating the tattoo every 12 weeks. The following reasons explain why we do not perform the R20 method at any of our clinics: • Increased risk of side effects • Risk of scarring • Uncertainty about the results • Slower healing process • Increased risk of pigment changes • Higher risk of pain and discomfort

How does the tattoo look between treatments?

How quickly a tattoo fades is highly individual, and the results after each treatment are not linear. By this, we mean that if, for example, you need 10 treatments, you cannot expect the tattoo to fade by 10% each time. The speed at which you see results varies based on the amount of ink, the color, and the age of the tattoo. For two people with identical tattoos, the amount of fading after, say, 5 treatments can differ significantly. Some individuals notice clear results after the first treatment, while others may only see a difference after the third treatment. Additionally, the perception of the most significant change can vary. For example, one person might perceive that their tattoo has faded by 30% after four treatments, while after the fifth treatment, it appears to have faded by 60%. Below, you can see two examples of how a tattoo may look after three treatments. Images During the Consultation Since there is a waiting period of 12 weeks between each treatment, it’s possible to become "blind" to the changes. When you see the tattoo every day and become accustomed to its appearance, it can be challenging to notice how much it has actually faded. That’s why we take pictures during the consultation so you can easily compare and appreciate the difference since you began the removal process.

Consultation for tattoo removal

Konsultation

Can i have a treatment during the consultation?

We always recommend undergoing a patch test before starting the actual removal process. This is done to ensure that you do not have any allergic reactions (such as large blisters or more swelling than usual) when the ink is released into the body. However, if you wish, and if you have a tattoo smaller than 10x10 cm, we can perform the treatment directly without needing a patch test. If your tattoo is larger than 10x10 cm, we will need to conduct a patch test before you can begin the treatment. The Consultation During the consultation, you will speak with one of our laser specialists, who will answer all your questions and concerns regarding the removal process. You will also receive an estimate of the number of treatments required, as well as a price per treatment. We will discuss how we structure the treatments, the recommended waiting time between sessions, and provide you with information on aftercare. You will be asked a few questions about your tattoo, such as how long you have had it and whether it contains white ink or if it is a cover-up. The same specialist you meet during your consultation will also be the one to treat you. If you are unsure about how you would like to proceed or have questions about the consultation/treatment, you can book a digital consultation with one of our laser specialists or chat with us directly here on the site (click the pink button in the corner to start a conversation).

Laser before cover-up

Cover up

Can you tattoo over an old tattoo?

Yes, it is possible to do a cover-up to get a new design that you feel better about, but not all tattoos can be tattooed over directly. In many cases, it is necessary to fade the old tattoo before applying a new one. Almost everyone considering a cover-up will benefit from lightening their old tattoo first. Advantages of Fading the Tattoo First The advantages of fading your old tattoo with laser treatment before getting a new one include increased flexibility regarding the new design. By fading the old tattoo, its visibility is reduced, which in turn minimizes limitations on the new design. A faded tattoo also provides a lighter base for the tattoo artist to work with, making their job significantly easier. Additionally, it becomes much simpler to add more details to the new tattoo when you are not limited by the need to primarily cover the old ink. One situation we sometimes encounter is when someone has a very dark tattoo that they have tried to cover. However, the new design may not be dark enough, causing the old tattoo to shine through. This results in having two tattoos that one regrets. Removing a cover-up also takes longer compared to just removing a tattoo that has been applied once. In summary, while cover-ups are possible, fading the old tattoo beforehand can lead to a more satisfying and effective result.

What does the skin look like after the treatment?

After a treatment, the skin may react in various ways. The most common reactions include redness, swelling, and tenderness. Bruising may also occur on or around the area of your tattoo, and (less commonly) blisters may form on the tattoo. Swelling, redness, and tenderness usually subside within a few days, while it may take longer for the skin to heal if blisters develop. It is very important not to pick at blisters and scabs and to keep the area clean to avoid the risk of infection or potential scarring. You can use a compress on fluid-filled blisters to protect them from friction caused by clothing and other sources. To prevent blisters, it is essential to use the provided cooling pack and follow the recommended aftercare instructions. Cooling the area also helps reduce swelling. Some people may also find that their skin becomes dry and may flake a little after treatment. In such cases, it is beneficial to use a moisturizing, fragrance-free skin cream. In rare cases, the laser may affect the skin's pigment cells, leading to hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, meaning the skin may become darker or lighter in certain areas. The risk of this is generally higher for individuals with darker skin types or those who are sunburned. Therefore, it is crucial to avoid direct sunlight on the tattoo for 4 weeks before and after treatment and to regularly use sunscreen with a high SPF. The appearance of the skin after the tattoo is removed largely depends on how the tattoo was applied. If a tattoo is very deep or has healed poorly, there may be scarring in the skin. This can manifest as raised areas in certain spots or a lack of pigment that follows the lines of the tattoo. If we notice any scarring or lack of pigment during the consultation, we will inform you about it.

Can a tattoo be completely removed?

The ability to completely remove a tattoo depends on several factors. For instance, a well-executed black tattoo is typically not a problem for us to fade and remove. However, there are factors that can negatively impact the final result. Below, we list various factors that may result in incomplete removal. Factors Affecting Complete Removal Depth: A tattoo that is very deep in the skin can be difficult to remove entirely, as the laser may not penetrate deeply enough to reach the ink. Additionally, if there is scarring within the tattoo, this can further complicate the removal process. Colored Tattoos: Light colors like green, yellow, and turquoise absorb less laser energy, making them more challenging to remove completely. In these cases, we often recommend a cover-up. Tattoos that contain red ink are generally easier to remove, but they may still require more time and treatments. White Ink: Some tattoos include white ink, which can char and turn gray when treated with laser. We can mitigate this by working with lower strengths on areas that contain white ink, but this may result in a longer removal process. To achieve the best possible outcome, it is also crucial to follow the recommended intervals between treatments. The reason for the longer wait times is to give the body enough time to process and eliminate each layer of ink. Finally, it is important to ensure that the clinic you choose uses high-quality equipment and has experienced laser therapists.

How many treatments are needed to remove a tattoo?

The number of treatments required to completely remove a tattoo depends on several different factors, which are listed below. Color: Tattoos with dark colors like black and gray are generally easier to remove. If the tattoo contains colors like yellow, green, or turquoise, more treatments may be necessary, as lighter colors absorb less laser energy. Age: An older tattoo has usually faded over time and is therefore easier to remove than a newly done tattoo. Depth: If the tattoo is very deep in the skin, more treatments are typically required because the laser energy needs to penetrate deeper to reach the ink. Size: A larger tattoo generally requires more treatments than a smaller one, as there is more ink for the body to break down. Placement: Tattoos located closer to the heart tend to fade faster than those further out on the body due to better blood circulation. The number of treatments can also vary from person to person, as we are all unique and may respond differently to laser treatment. One person may require more treatments than another to remove a similar tattoo. To get an idea of how many treatments will be necessary in your case, you are welcome to book a consultation with us. A general estimate for a typical black tattoo is between 8 to 12 treatments, while a tattoo that is newly done, deep, or contains vibrant colors may require between 10 to 14 treatments or more.

Can tattoos be removed with cream?

Many people who regret their tattoos or want to remove them may sometimes be tempted by cheaper and faster alternatives. There are often discussions on online forums about the use of creams that claim to remove tattoos. But is it really possible to remove a tattoo with cream? The short answer is no. Significant Risks of Using Creams It is essential to be aware of the significant risks associated with using creams to remove a tattoo. Many of these creams are marketed with claims that they can fade the tattoo and ultimately make it disappear completely. Unfortunately, the results of these creams are often minimal, and in many cases, they can cause severe damage to the skin. We have encountered numerous clients who have suffered burns, scarring, and loss of pigmentation after using such creams in an attempt to fade their tattoos. Tattoos are intended to be permanent artworks that are deeply embedded in the skin layer known as the dermis. Common creams do not have the ability to penetrate deeply enough to reach the layers of skin where the tattoo resides. For this reason, creams can never effectively remove a tattoo. The Best Alternative The best and most reliable option for tattoo removal is to undergo laser treatment. Using a powerful laser, the pigments are broken down and then absorbed by the body's immune system. This leads to gradual fading and eventually complete removal of the tattoo. To achieve the best results and minimize the risk of complications, it is crucial to choose a reputable clinic with modern nanolaser technology and experienced practitioners.

How many swedes have tattoos?

Tattoos have become increasingly popular in Sweden in recent years, with a significant rise in interest. Decorating the body with art has evolved from being somewhat taboo to becoming a way to express oneself personally and showcase one’s identity. But how common is it, really, for Swedes to have tattoos? Differences among age groups According to surveys, the number of Swedes with tattoos has steadily increased. A report from Statistics Sweden (SCB) shows that by 2019, approximately 20% of the population aged 16 to 84 had one or more tattoos. This means that nearly one in five Swedes has a tattoo. Compared to previous decades, this is a noticeable increase. There is also an age-related difference in the prevalence of tattoos. Among younger age groups, it is more common to have tattoos than among older individuals. In the 16-24 age group, a remarkable 35% had a tattoo, while in the 65-84 age group, the figure was only 6%. This indicates that the acceptance and popularity of tattoos have increased the most among younger generations. More women than men are tattooed Another interesting observation is that women are more likely to have tattoos than men. In the aforementioned SCB report, it was noted that 24% of women had tattoos, compared to 16% of men. However, there is some variation among different age groups and social strata. Several factors may have contributed to more Swedes choosing to get tattooed. One likely reason is the increased visibility and acceptance of tattoos in society. In the past, tattoos were often associated with sailors, subcultures, and criminality, but today they are more widely accepted and seen as a form of personal style and artistic expression. Increased availability of tattoo studios in Sweden There is also greater availability of tattoo studios and professional tattoo artists. It has become an established industry offering a wide variety of styles and designs, making it easier for people to find something that suits their personal taste. In summary, we can say that the number of Swedes with tattoos has increased, and tattoos have become increasingly common in society. Nearly one in five Swedes has a tattoo, particularly prevalent among younger women. The acceptance and visibility of tattoos have risen, contributing to more people expressing their personality and style through various tattoo designs.

How many regret their tattoos?

Tattoos have become increasingly common and accepted as a form of body adornment. Many people choose to get tattooed to express their personality, show affection for their partner, or simply to have a unique decoration on their body. However, a significant number of individuals regret their tattoos after some time. So how common is it to regret a tattoo? More Than One in Four Regret Their Tattoo Regretting a tattoo is not unusual, and studies have explored this phenomenon. According to a study published by the British Journal of Dermatology, about 24% of respondents reported regretting at least one of their tattoos. Another study conducted by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology showed that approximately 33% of those surveyed regretted one of their tattoos. It is evident that a large percentage of people have regrets about their tattoos. Reasons for Regretting a Tattoo There are several reasons why individuals regret their tattoos. One of the most common reasons is that they feel the tattoo no longer represents who they are today. People change over time, and something that may have been significant and meaningful at one point may no longer hold the same importance. Other reasons for regretting a tattoo can include no longer liking the appearance of the tattoo or finding that it does not fit into their professional or personal life. Some individuals also regret tattoos due to poor execution or incorrect spellings. Methods for Removing Tattoos There are various methods for removing or covering an unwanted tattoo. One of the most common methods is laser removal, which uses laser light to break down the pigments in the tattoo. Other alternatives include surgical removal, dermabrasion (mechanical abrasion of the skin), and chemical peeling. Laser removal is the gentlest method for the skin and, unlike the other methods, does not cause scarring or other damage to the skin. In summary, it is not uncommon for individuals to regret their tattoos for various reasons, including changing taste preferences or negative experiences. As established experts in tattoo removal, we have over 10 years of experience and have successfully performed more than 12,000 treatments since our inception. Our expertise and proven techniques make us a reliable choice for those seeking to safely and effectively remove their tattoos. *Note: Some clinics may use outdated or inadequate equipment, which can significantly increase the risk of scarring and/or pigment damage.

Can a tattoo be removed with just one treatment?

In short, no, a tattoo generally cannot be removed with a single laser treatment. Laser treatment with a new nanolaser is the safest and most effective way to remove a tattoo, but the number of treatments required depends on various factors. Typically, it takes between 5 and 10 treatments to completely remove a tattoo. However, for newly applied tattoos and those containing strong blue or green hues, it may take longer. To achieve the best results from each laser treatment, we recommend waiting 12 weeks between treatments for regular tattoos and 8 weeks for eyebrow tattoos. The ink is removed very slowly by the body, and it can take a long time after a treatment before you see results. Therefore, there are no negative effects of waiting longer between treatments. The actual laser treatment itself, however, is very quick and usually lasts only between 1 and 10 minutes. With our laser, we can adjust both the speed and the size of the treatment area, meaning that the treatment time is significantly shorter compared to older lasers. If treatments are performed with less than 8 weeks between sessions, some of the same ink particles that were treated in the previous session will be lasered again. This can make the treatment less effective and, in the worst case, may cause damage to the skin. Factors That Affect the Number of Treatments: Quality: Professional studio tattoos vs. homemade tattoos or "stick and poke" tattoos. Your Immune System: How effectively it can transport away the lasered ink particles. Age of the Tattoo: Older tattoos fade faster than newly applied ones. Size: Smaller tattoos can be removed more quickly than larger tattoos. Placement: It is quicker for the body to transport the ink away when the tattoo is located closer to the heart. Colors: Black and red hues disappear faster than green and blue hues.

Cover-up tattoo

Hide your old tattoo with a new cover-up Tattoo

The best way to get rid of an unwanted tattoo is to lighten it using laser treatments. However, in some cases, it may be difficult to completely fade an old tattoo. For example, if the tattoo contains colors that are challenging to treat, such as turquoise, green, or blue. In such cases, covering it up with a new tattoo after lightening it with a few laser treatments can be a viable option. A cover-up conceals your old tattoo or incorporates it into a new design. The focus for a tattoo artist when creating a cover-up is to select colors and designs that effectively hide the old one. The reasons for a cover-up vary for each individual. The tattoo may be poorly done, a reminder of a difficult period in life, or a tattoo that you want to integrate into a larger new design. Easier tattoos to Conceal with a cover-up: Faded tattoos (due to age or laser treatment) Light tattoos More difficult tattoos to conceal with a cover-up: Dark tattoos Tattoos with many details Before covering an old tattoo, it is recommended by tattoo artists to undergo laser treatment in preparation for the cover-up. The number of treatments required depends on how faded the tattoo needs to be before new ink can cover it without showing through. The tattoo artist performing your cover-up will usually emphasize this, and our laser specialists also have experience in this area. If you want to know what would be required for your tattoo before a cover-up, you can book a consultation.

The History of Tattoo Removal

The History of tattoo removal

Tattoos have been a form of personal expression for centuries, but how have the methods of removing them evolved when the personal expression no longer aligns with the individual who bears it? Tattoo removal has come a long way since its early beginnings when painful and scar-inducing techniques were the only options available. In this article, we briefly explore the history of tattoo removal and how it has developed into the advanced laser technology we use today. Early Forms of Tattoo Removal Tattoo removal has existed since the time of the ancient Egyptians, who used a form of salabrasion to remove tattoos. This technique involved applying a salt solution and an abrasive tool to scrub away the top layers of skin, effectively grinding away the tattoo. While it was effective, it was also incredibly painful and left behind scarring. Another early form of tattoo removal was dermabrasion, which utilized a high-speed rotary device to sand away the tattoo. This technique was less painful than salabrasion but still resulted in scarring. The Development of Chemical Tattoo Removal In the 1800s, a breakthrough in tattoo removal occurred with the discovery of chemical peels. This technique involved applying a caustic chemical to the tattooed area, causing the skin to blister and peel away, taking the tattoo ink with it. Although this method was still painful and sometimes caused scarring, it represented an advancement compared to previous techniques. The Evolution of Laser Technology It wasn't until the 1960s that laser technology emerged as a viable option for tattoo removal. The first lasers used for this purpose were Q-switched ruby lasers, which emitted red light that could break down tattoo ink. While effective, these lasers could only target certain ink colors and often left scarring. Over the years, laser technology continued to evolve with the development of Q-switched Nd and Alexandrite lasers. These lasers were more effective at targeting a broader range of ink colors and had a lower likelihood of causing scarring. Today, the gold standard for tattoo removal is the Q-switched Nd laser. The Science Behind Laser Tattoo Removal Laser tattoo removal works by emitting a high-intensity beam of light that penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the tattoo ink. This process breaks the ink down into small particles, which are then eliminated by the body’s immune system. Multiple sessions are required for complete tattoo removal, with several weeks between each session to give the body time to absorb the ink particles. The number of sessions needed depends on factors such as the tattoo's size and placement, as well as the colors of the ink used. The Future of Tattoo Removal Although laser technology has advanced significantly, there is still room for improvement. Researchers are currently exploring the use of even more advanced nanosecond lasers, which could potentially reduce the number of sessions required for complete tattoo removal. Additionally, ongoing research is focused on developing tattoo inks that are easier to remove. These inks would break down more readily when exposed to laser light, making tattoo removal even more effective. A Common Next Step Tattoo removal has come a long way since the painful and scarring techniques of the past. With the development of advanced laser technology, it is now a safe and effective method for those looking to remove their tattoos. Common tattoo removal motives

The 10 most common tattoos to remove

Tattoos can be a great way to express yourself, but sometimes people regret them and want to remove them. Whether due to personal changes, lifestyle choices, or simply a shift in trends, many seek to have their tattoos removed. Based on insights from the American Academy of Dermatology and over 17,000 customers at Rethink, here are the 10 most common tattoos people opt to remove: 1. Ex-Partner’s Name Tattoos of a partner’s name can feel deeply meaningful during a relationship, but if things don’t work out, these tattoos become a frequent candidate for removal. 2. Wrist Tattoos Visible wrist tattoos can be difficult to hide, especially in professional settings. For those seeking new career opportunities or stricter workplaces, wrist tattoos are often one of the first to be removed. 3. Tribal Tattoos Once a defining trend of the 90s, tribal tattoos have significantly fallen out of favor. As tastes evolve, many individuals who sported these designs now look to remove them. 4. Quote Tattoos Words can hold deep personal significance at the time, but they don't always age well. Whether due to shifting values or outdated messages, quote tattoos often end up on the removal list. 5. Misspelled Tattoos A common reason for tattoo regret is discovering a spelling mistake after the fact. Misspelled words can turn a meaningful tattoo into an embarrassing one, leading to removal. 6. Neck and Face Tattoos Visible tattoos, particularly on the neck and face, can be challenging to conceal. These areas can also impact job prospects, prompting many to opt for removal to meet workplace requirements. 7. Finger Tattoos While finger tattoos are small and can be symbolic, they are often difficult to maintain and fade quickly. They can also become a distraction, making them a frequent removal request. 8. Ankle Tattoos Ankle tattoos can be aesthetically pleasing, but like other visible tattoos, they can be hard to conceal, especially in professional or formal settings. Over time, many decide to have them removed. 9. Lower Back Tattoos Popular in the 80s and 90s, lower back tattoos have fallen out of favor. Many women, particularly as they age, seek to have these tattoos removed as they no longer fit their current lifestyle or image. 10. Foot Tattoos Foot tattoos are prone to fading and distortion due to constant friction and exposure. This makes them one of the most commonly removed tattoo types, as they can wear out more quickly than tattoos on other parts of the body. Considering tattoo removal? With advancements in laser technology, removing an unwanted tattoo is safer and more effective than ever. Reach out to our specialists to explore your options and start fresh!

Reasons to cover your old tattoo with a new one

Below, we list the 5 most common reasons for choosing to get a cover-up tattoo The tattoo is poorly done A memory from a difficult or different period in life The tattoo has faded or become outdated in design Desire to incorporate an old tattoo into a new, larger tattoo The tattoo is a design that no longer matches my current values 1. The tattoo is poorly done We've all heard of someone getting a tattoo in a basement or at an after-party. Home tattoos might sound like a good and cheap idea, but they often result in poorly done tattoos that look worse after a few years. A cover-up can therefore be a quick way to conceal poorly done tattoos. 2. A memory from a difficult or different period in life Memories are not always the best or most enjoyable, and a tattoo can remind you of people, feelings, or places you no longer want to remember. Waiting until a tattoo is completely removed by laser can feel like too long to walk around with a bad memory and sometimes even impossible to do (depending on ink, color, placement, etc.). In these cases, a cover-up can shorten the time the tattoo needs to remain and instead, after a few laser treatments, make it possible to cover with a new design. Worth considering! Strong colors from tattoos can shine through new tattoos, so it's recommended to fade the tattoo beforehand, even if you want the process to be as quick as possible. 3. The tattoo has faded or become outdated in design Trends come and go, and this certainly applies to tattoos as well. Today, it's possible to see when tattoos were done just by looking at the design or how the ink has partially disappeared. For example, tribals that had a popular period among the masses during the 90s. The choice doesn't have to be between keeping an old tattoo or removing it completely - a cover-up tattoo is perfect for these occasions. 4. Desire to incorporate an old tattoo into a new, larger tattoo The original plan might not have been a full sleeve or back piece, but now that a few years have passed, it feels like the clear choice. For the old tattoo to fit into a larger design, it may often require certain parts to be faded with laser beforehand, or perhaps removed completely. 5. The tattoo is a design that no longer matches current values Like trends in designs, there are also trends in one's view of the world and surroundings. We don't always share the same values, and for many, values can change over a lifetime. Summary - reasons for getting a cover-up As you can see, the reasons vary, and there are many more if we were to ask every customer who gets a cover-up. It's worth noting, however, that a cover-up tattoo is not something that can be done for all tattoos. Everything depends on what original design you had and what new design you desire. Want to know if your tattoo is a good candidate for a cover-up? Read on to find out if cover-ups can be done on all tattoos and how the process of getting a cover-up works. For some, it might be best to remove the tattoo completely before considering a new design.

The best time to start removing your tattoo

What many people don't know is that the seasons when you are exposed to less direct sunlight are the best periods for lasering tattoos. Winter is actually said to be the best season for all types of laser treatments. However, that doesn't mean you need to wait 8 months if you realize in April that you want to start removing your tattoo. The best time is always right now. But if you're thinking about whether you should tackle your New Year's resolution and start the process, you should definitely start. Here are a few reasons why fall and winter are the best seasons for tattoo removal: 1. No Sunburn When you get sunburned, your body's production of melanin increases. This makes the laser less effective on the tattoo and also increases the risk of blisters. The paler you are, the more effect the laser will have. 2. Less Risk of Pigment Changes The tanner you are when you are treated and the more you expose the tattoo to the sun after a treatment, the more the risk of pigment changes increases. Normally, the pigment changes completely revert so that the skin becomes as usual. But it can take a long time and cause us to have to wait longer between treatments. 3. You Can Let Your Hair Grow After a treatment, the skin is quite sensitive and it is important not to shave or wax the area where the tattoo is until it has healed. Otherwise, there is a risk of irritating the skin and the healing process taking a little longer. In the winter, most people don't have any problems with letting their hair grow out a little longer and they are often not as thorough with shaving. 4. You Don't Have to Think About Protecting the Tattoo from the Sun Your tattoo won't see the sun very much during the winter months. One advantage of this is that you don't have to think about being careful to apply sunscreen to it after the treatment. 5. You Avoid Curious Questions Since you probably won't show the tattoo as often as in the spring or summer, you'll avoid getting questions about what happened to your tattoo. Because your friends will probably become curious when your tattoo becomes blurrier and blurrier with each passing week.

Cover up

Laser treatment before a cover-up tattoo

Many might think that laser treatments for tattoos are only for those who dislike their tattoos and want to remove them completely. However, the truth is that some people actually love tattoos and want to create a new one on top of their old one—a cover-up. A common reason for undergoing laser treatment on tattoos is to fade an older tattoo in preparation for a new and improved design. If you have an older tattoo and are considering a cover-up, it’s worth giving tattoo removal some extra thought beforehand. Cover-ups are complex, and for a tattoo artist, it becomes an additional challenge to match one design with another. Areas where you may wish for very light colors may not be feasible if there is a dark ink underneath. Many tattoos are too dark (black or blue ink) to cover effectively, and in such cases, the old tattoo needs to be faded with laser treatment before a new tattoo can be applied. The number of treatments required will depend on how old your old tattoo is and which colors you wish to have in your new design. Generally, you won’t need as many sessions as you would if you wanted to completely remove the tattoo. So if your goal is to do a cover-up over an old tattoo, the treatments will be fewer. Our laser specialists will always provide you with a price estimate and the number of sessions required when you book a consultation.

Is the treatment painful?

Laser tattoo removal is an aesthetic process, relatively simple, but still with certain side effects. While some tattoos are very common and manageable, there are others that are very rare and special. The removal treatment will take a few sessions before the tattoo successfully disappears and the skin returns to its natural state. The procedure itself is still a mystery to many, and we have explained further in laser tattoo removal. Although more and more people want to remove their tattoos, the use of lasers can be frightening for many. An important question in this regard, and one that many ask, is precisely - does it hurt? How painful is laser treatment? Yes, laser removal can be painful. Some customers find it more painful than getting a tattoo during the first treatment. However, skin sensitivity varies greatly between people, and individual pain also varies depending on the tattoo's size, color, and placement. Each person, therefore, does not experience the same pain, and the experience will differ between individuals. It is, therefore, important not to generalize and let people believe that laser removal is only painful, as there are ways to make the treatment almost painless. Let's go through what you can expect from us when you undergo laser tattoo removal. Do you want to know more about how to make your tattoo removal an easy and painless process? 5 tips for a cover up tattoo

If you've read through the process of how a cover up works and feel confident in your choice to do a cover up instead of removing the tattoo completely**, then it's time to get started. Rethink gives you 5 tips for your cover up tattoo Choose a design that suits your old tattoo Build on the tattoo you already have Be prepared to need to "go up a size" Follow aftercare for laser and after you've done your tattoo Do your research regarding tattoo artists 1. Choose a design that suits your old tattoo Cover ups work best when the design resembles or covers the old design of the tattoo. If you have a red rose that you don't like, it's easier to do something that can contain parts of the red rose than trying to turn it into a blue dolphin. Be realistic when choosing your motif and dare to ask for advice from the pros. 2. Build on the tattoo you already have As we mentioned with the rose above, the next tip is to build on what you already have. Look at how you can make the tattoo more detailed, add colors, or enlarge the tattoo without it becoming a black lump that has to cover the old one. 3. Be prepared to need to "go up a size" You will have to have a new tattoo that is AT LEAST the size of your previous one, if not a little larger depending on the motif. If you can't imagine having a larger tattoo in the area, then it's probably best to go back to the drawing board and consider more laser treatments so more of the tattoo disappears. 4. Follow the care instructions after laser treatment It may take a couple of treatments before your tattoo is ready for a cover up. Be sure to take care of your skin between treatments by following the care instructions given by the laser specialist. Make sure to apply SPF50 so you don't damage your skin by burning in the sun and keep the area free from infections and scars by not picking or scratching after treatment. That way, your skin is whole and healthy when the tattoo artist puts the needle in it. 5. Do your research regarding tattoo artists There are a plethora of tattoo artists and unfortunately, not all of them are the best or most experienced when it comes to doing cover ups. They may be incredibly talented at their motifs and skin that hasn't had a tattoo before. An experienced cover up tattoo artist understands how ink can be mixed and motifs matched to make it look good even after a couple of years. Dare to ask for previous examples of cover ups done and ask around at several studios before making your decision. A tattoo sits forever, which you also signed up for when you got the first one, so make sure that the one who will sit over your old one will be of the best quality from an expert who knows their stuff. Questions you can ask tattoo artists when you do your research are: How do you feel about doing cover up tattoos? How many cover ups have you done before? Do you have any before and after pictures of cover up tattoos you've done? Is the number of laser treatments I've done enough? Or do you wish for more to be done for the new motif to be the best? Ready to begin the process for a cover up? Book a time with one of our laser specialists

In most cases, people wait 10 to 12 weeks between treatments, but depending on the placement and the amount of ink, it may sometimes be necessary to wait up to 14 weeks. For tattoos located far from the heart, such as on the hands and feet, waiting at least 12 weeks improves the effectiveness and reduces the risks. Why is this the case? When the laser breaks down the ink particles, the body’s white blood cells, along with the lymphatic system, will work to break down the ink in the tattooed area. After about eight weeks, approximately 70% of the fragmented ink is estimated to be gone. After that, it takes another four months for the majority of the remaining ink to be completely eliminated. Thus, it takes increasingly longer to remove the last remnants of ink. The reason for waiting more than eight weeks is to reduce the risk that the new treatment targets already fragmented ink instead of the ink that is deeper in the skin. Therefore, experts generally recommend waiting 12 weeks unless the tattoo is very small or consists of high-quality ink. For some individuals, it takes even longer to break down the ink. This is often the case for: Individuals whose immune systems typically require longer to break down cells Those with tattoo ink from unreliable tattoo artists. People who are significantly sunburned from vacation. Smokers. Individuals with extra pigmentation in their skin that is more sensitive. The best rule of thumb is to wait unless the tattoo has sufficiently faded since the last session. As a customer at Rethink, you can always reach out or send pictures to understand how far along you are in the process.

Things to Consider (and Avoid) Before Treatment

Sun Vacation When you spend a lot of time in strong sunlight, the body produces extra melanin. That's what makes you look tanned afterwards. The problem with being tan and tattoo removal is that the laser can hit the melanin before it hits the ink under the skin. This means that the treatment may have less effect compared to if you were your natural color. The risks of pigment changes are also somewhat higher if you are very sunburned. We therefore recommend that you wait at least 4 weeks after sunbathing or getting sunburned before being treated. Spray Tan / Self-tanner The same principle applies here as with natural tanning. The laser will take less effect on the ink because there is a layer of spray tan in the way. There is also a high risk of pigment changes when the spray tan reacts to the laser. We recommend that you wait at least two weeks until your spray tan has completely disappeared before lasering your tattoo. Don't Come Directly from the Tattoo Studio Sometimes you feel immediately that it was the wrong decision to get a tattoo. But unfortunately, there is nothing you can do right away. You need to give your body time to heal before we can start the laser treatment. There must be at least 2 weeks from the time you got your tattoo until we can start the treatment. Check How Your Medications Can Affect Some medications can have a negative impact on the healing process, while others may require you to completely refrain from laser treatment until you stop taking them. Examples of medications that require you to refrain from treatment are St. John's wort and cortisone. Medications that act as blood pressure lowering/blood thinning should be checked with your doctor before starting treatment with us. If you are unsure how your medications may affect the process, we recommend that you contact us before booking an appointment or contact your doctor.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

To understand why tattoo removal can be painful, it's essential to grasp how the process works and what it entails. When a tattoo is applied, the ink is inserted deep into the skin by needles. Your immune system will recognize the ink as an invader in your body. Like any other skin injury, white blood cells will rush to the area to protect the body. Although this will be a very slow and prolonged process, the white blood cells will attempt to break down the ink. They will also transport small fragments of the ink to the liver, where the ink will be processed and eliminated. However, the ink particles are too large for these small cells to remove them entirely. Therefore, the body cannot remove the tattoo on its own without laser treatment to break the ink particles down into smaller pieces. The only way to effectively remove a tattoo is through the use of lasers. The laser we use is called the Q-terra Q10, which sends ultrashort laser pulses that break apart (or shatter) the ink particles in the skin. This makes the particles smaller and easier for white blood cells to manage and eliminate. Our laser generates a high temperature, which is necessary for breaking down the ink. The laser operates at an extremely fast speed, some as quick as a billionth of a second (nanoseconds). The speed of the laser plays a crucial role in how effective the removal process will be. In fact, the laser beam must be fast enough to heat one part of the ink particle while allowing the other part to cool. This way, the ink particles are forced apart due to the differing temperature changes. Some refer to this process as "exploding" the ink particles through a thermal effect.
